I'm Moving to Bear Blog

I hate to be another addition to a "blog about blogging", I'm sure all the IndieWeb fans out there see enough of that already in their feeds. However, I am migrating from a home-built website solution to Bear Blog and wanted to briefly talk about why.

My original site, ww0cj.radio, is built using 11ty. I love 11ty as a static-site generator, and have been using it for several years now.

However, in reorganizing my laptop, I ended up deleting the git repository and reinstalling it from scratch when going to write a new update. In this new install, despite being on the latest Node.js and 11ty versioning, I've encountered an odd bug that no one can seem to reproduce that is causing .11tydata.js files to break on my local dev environment. I spent a bit trying to resolve the issue, but haven't come to a conclusion yet.

Despite all of this, I really wanted to write a new post on my site. I'm hoping to participate in the 52 Week Ham Challenge and am already needing to work on catching up - and didn't want to waste anymore time bug fixing. With this as well, as a college student, my time to write and work on projects is slim and I need a way to sit down and write with as little friction as possible.

So, I've decided for the time being to let Bear handle my website for a while. This way, I'm able to sit down and write from anywhere, publish instantly, and not worry about my website going up in flames when I try and write a 500 word blog post.

Eventually I'll migrate back to a JAMstack site, likely once my personal life and projects have died down a bit and I'm ready to tackle an ongoing maintenance task like that again. But for now, I'd like to get back to sitting down and writing about my thoughts, life, and projects as quickly and simply as possible. :)
