Severance Season 1
I always hate ending on a cliffhanger, and especially having to wait a week to learn what happens next. It's why the only show I've watched start to finish in a really long time is NBC's Chuck, and why I mostly stick to movies these days.
But...I've been seeing hype for Severance all around me - from Instagram posts, to people chatting about it in group chats, to miscellaneous Fediverse posts. That paired with all of the Emmy nominations - it became hard to excuse not having watched it as someone with Apple TV+ access.
After queuing up the Pilot episode during dinner the other night, I can soundly say I haven't been wrapped up in a TV show that quickly in a long time - if ever.
The concept of severance brings up a series of interesting moral and philosophical debates, making it not only interesting to watch on screen but also an interesting dialogue between myself and my roommate as we consider the implications of this technology. The characters are incredibly relatable - while I may not be in the midst of loss as some of them are, I think most can understand that feeling of wanting to escape life in some regard. And the personality of "innies" sometimes feels like the type of persona or "mask" some people have to have when they're going about their life.
Finishing Season 1 was incredible, and the ending cliffhangers have been worth it ten-fold. I highly recommend that anyone watch it - especially if you like interesting thriller/drama shows, with a hint of futurism. I struggle with rating mediums I don't often watch, so I'll avoid giving it a star rating, but this definitely ranks highly among TV Seasons in my book.
