The Gameboy LEGO Set
For Christmas this year, my girlfriend got me the Game Boy LEGO set - a set that I'd been eyeing since it was just announced and through its release, but never pulled the trigger on. I love building LEGO sets, but having not a lot of space in my apartment plus not a lot of free time most days, I avoid buying and building them in general a lot of the time.
A couple of weeks later, I was looking for a quick way to relax and destress, and decided to crack it open and build it. I had an absolute blast building the set, and wanted to share this post to recommend that everyone with even the slightest bit of interest in Nintendo or LEGO go check it out!

Right off the bat, there's a few small details that I love about this set. The stands for the cartridge and Game Boy are such a nice convenience to have for display - I haven't built many sets that don't stand on their own but this felt like a nice touch.
The controls, mainly the D-Pad and the A/B buttons are made interactive in such a cool way, using rubber and balancing bricks - fascinating ways of setting this up that I never would have thought of on my own! The "screen" are holographic plastic sheets, so you can swap between 3 of them to provide a bit of a sense of movement on the screen in a nice fun touch.
There's so many small bits of creativity that came into play when this set was designed that are really cool to execute on. This is definitely a great set and I highly recommend anyone interested check it out!
I'm also super excited to check out what happens with some of these projects putting real electronics into the LEGO set - it seems like a no-brainer while also being an interesting project with the size constraints and building around the form factor. I'm a bit surprised that LEGO didn't wait to release this with their new smart bricks to add some level of electronics in the base model, but the set is super fun to build and mess with nonetheless.
Thanks for reading this short write-up on a fun project! Let me know if you've built the set and had fun with it, or what your favorite sets are. I'd love to get even more into LEGO as a creative outlet/destressor and would love to give some of them a shot.
